Foldable wooden checkers game. Checkers is one of the oldest games in human history, with variations of the game dating back several millennia. It's the very definition of a classic game, connecting completely different civilizations living in completely different societies for thousands of years. The endearing and enduring appeal of this game is truly remarkable. Boards have been found in Ur, as early as 3000 BC. The game was popular in ancient Egypt until 1500 BC, with boards often being found in burial chambers, and the queen Hatasu was known to play there frequently. The game remained popular during the time of the Roman Empire. This game is also linked to the Arabic game known as Quirkat, which was played on a board of five squares by five squares. This game was introduced to Spain by the Moors, where it was called Alquerque. From there, the game migrated to France around the year 1100. Each piece was called "irons", the same name used for the queen in a chess game. Eventually the name was changed to "checkers" when this name was also adopted for the chess queen.
